Make Your Move a Breeze

We’ve all been there. You’re halfway through a move and thinking to yourself “there could have been an easier way.” Avoid that feeling by arming yourself with my top 5 tips for a seamless move.

Tip 1: Purge

Donate, sell, or toss any items that you no longer use or won’t fit into your new home. The only thing worse than packing is packing items that you will just end up getting rid of once you are in your new home. A professional organizer can help you go through items to decide what should stay and what needs to go.

Tip 2: Order New Appliances, Funiture, and Fixtures Asap

Appliances and other home goods are in short supply due to the pandemic and have longer than usual lead times. Order any new items you need well in advance to ensure you aren't moving into your new place without a refrigerator or a couch!

Tip 3: Box Up

#PROPTIP Look for places that sell gently used boxes. They are a fraction of the price and often look brand new. If you're in the San Jose area try JDM Packing Supply on Bascom.

Tip 4: Hire Help

You know the saying: many hands make light work. Whether hiring a moving company or enticing friends and family to help with pizza and beer (or champagne in my case), you'll be happy to have all the extra assistance you can get on moving day!

Tip 5: Organize

This may sound simple but organize as you unpack. There is no better time than the present to make sure everything finds the right home. For me, this means going to The Container Store ASAP to load up on drawer, pantry, and closet organizers.
